NEXT generation
of over 25 MW offshore wind Turbine rotor design
NEXT generation of over 25MW offshore wind Turbine rotor design (NEXTgenT) is doctoral network focus to develop the next generation of 25+MW offshore wind turbine rotor systems through research in atmospheric science and wind turbine technologies.
Offshore wind turbines are expected to surpass 25 MW and 350-meter rotor diameters in the next 5-10 years. This increase is driven by the reduction of costs and the need to generate more wind power to meet the energy transition goals to renewable resources.
This new scenario requires further research to develop simulations tools, control concepts and sustainability practices as the design and analysis of such large-scale turbines.
NEXTgenT addresses these challenges by educating a new generation of highly skilled researchers through a unique multidisciplinary, intersectoral, and international programme to support the wind turbine system OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), O&M (Operation and Maintenance) companies, sustainable material companies, and wind farm development and operating industry.
